Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) services were disrupted because of a global outage. The users worldwide were impacted.
Downdetector logged the initial report of connectivity problems at 3:50 PM on February 8.
Then, the reports of network failures began amassing significantly at 4:19 PM. Over 68,000 users reported server connectivity and login access problems.
When did the situation deteriorate?
According to Downdetector, the majority of reports (78%) were about difficulties connecting to the server, while 19% involved login issues. A small portion of users (3%) experienced problems with other features. The service disruption had the biggest impact when people in the US attempted to use PlayStation’s online service after returning from school or work. Sony’s team is putting in effort to resolve the problem.
What problems did gamers face?
The PSN breakdown affected every PlayStation system, including PS5, PS4, PS Vita, and PS3. Gamers also ran into trouble when they tried to add friends, manage their accounts, or buy stuff on the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct. When people attempted to log in, they saw an error message that read, ‘PlayStation Network is undergoing maintenance (WS-37432-9).’ No one knows why the network went down.
